Bluesky App Passwords
An app password is a special password you create in Bluesky for use by apps like SkyPi. It is separate from your main account password, can be revoked at any time, and limits what the app can do.
Why it’s secure
- Scoped: App passwords are separate credentials you can delete without affecting your main login.
- Revocable: If you lose a device or stop using an app, remove its app password from Bluesky settings.
- Encrypted in transit: SkyPi sends your app password over HTTPS.
- No storage: SkyPi uses it to obtain a session and does not store your password.
How to create one
- Open Bluesky and go to Settings.
- Select App passwords.
- Tap Create new app password.
- Copy the generated password (format like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx).
- Use your handle (e.g., yourname.bsky.social) and this app password to sign in on SkyPi.
Tip: Never share your main Bluesky password with apps. Use app passwords instead — you can remove them anytime.
